JOB TITLE:    Shift Supervisor

LOCATION:  Gaudenzia-DRC/Main – Reception

STATUS:        Exempt

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

            This is a responsible supervisory position directing the activities of providers of service related to client intake, evaluation and referral within a multi-service behavioral health treatment facility.  The Shift Supervisors are responsible for the operation of the reception and admitting areas and for the safety and security of patients in the Gaudenzia-DRC programs during all shifts.  One Shift Supervisor is on duty during each shift and works with a team of Residential Aides and a receptionist.  Duties include supervising, training and orienting new subordinates, planning, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance and advising on difficult or unusual problems.  Work includes interviewing incoming clients, facilitating referrals as needed and making frequent rounds of the building and grounds. Participates with others in the evaluation and treatment of alcohol, poly drug abusers, and clients with co-occurring disorders, and in establishing operating practices and procedures.  Works in accordance with precedents and well-defined Gaudenzia-DRC policies and procedures.  Contact is with clients, colleagues and staff of other human service agencies.  Duties are performed under light supervision, and require individual who is responsible, self-reliant and able to function with composure in emergencies and other unusual situations.

 

SUPERVISED BY:    Director of Operations and Operations Supervisor                

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Residential Aides, Drivers and Receptionists

 

RELATES TO:   Supervisors from preceding and following shifts and Directors of                                                                     Various Programs at Gaudenzia-DRC.

 

DUTIES:

 

  1. Responsible for proper assignment of all program staff scheduled for the shift. Makes changes of location assignment to meet program need.

 

  1. Assigns and/or monitors individual work which staff must complete during shift.

 

  1. Ensures the delivery of services to clients by program components that are functioning at that time. (Inpatient, CODAAP, CCF, Womens, and Partial Hospital).

 

  1. Performs the following duties as needed:
  2. a) Conducts skilled interviews with new and former clients to elicit necessary information and to explain program fully.
  3. b) Completes any required paperwork including, but not limited to, incident reports, log entries, etc. and coordinates referrals to other Gaudenzia-DRC staff and/or other facilities.
  4. c) Assesses physical and mental condition of incoming clients and clients within the facility as needed. Refers to appropriate program services.
  5. d) Provides therapeutic/supportive contact for the clients. Encourages clients to pursue recovery and become involved in treatment at Gaudenzia-DRC.
  6. e) Supervises Residential Aides in the performance of their duties.
  7. f) Responds to inquiries from hospital or referring agency concerning referral to Gaudenzia-DRC’s treatment Program.

 

  1. Personally, inspects all floors of building to ensure that clients and staff are secure in their assigned areas.

 

  1. Meets with supervisor of following shift and transmits unfinished business.

 

  1. Maintains complete happenings on shift through completion of log and incident reports.

 

  1. Notifies Director of Operations and on-call Directors of any emergencies such as violence, damage to property, fire, failure of client to return by curfew and AWOLS of correctional clients and any unusual occurrences. Calls hospitals and police to ascertain whereabouts of correctional clients when clients fail to return and are designated as AWOL.

 

  1. Works assigned shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.

 

  1. Responsible for the safety and security of facility and all clients.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Individual must be comfortable with self, is empathetic and is able to deal responsibly with clients and fellow staff. Individual must be capable of dealing with the possible frustrations involved in working with the attempted recoveries of sick clients who may not immediately respond to services offered. 

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree or related experience.

 

  1. Three years’ experience in treatment of addictions, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of crisis intervention. Should be capable of directing delivery of emergency services to clients by staff at several locations.

 

  1. A current valid driver’s license is preferred.
